Join Us for an Exceptional Performance and Open Recording Session
Stereo Field Recordings and Bop Shop Records are thrilled to host rising composer Joey Stempien and his big band for a program of original music. This promises to be an unforgettable evening showcasing the work of one of jazz's most exciting young voices.
About Joey Stempien
Joey Stempien (b. 2004) is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and bandleader from Rochester, NY. Renowned for his innovative approach to jazz and contemporary composition, Stempien published his first big band work at just 17 years old. His music, characterized by its distinctive melodies and evocative soundscapes, has been performed by esteemed groups such as the US Navy Commodores and the US Army Field Band Jazz Ambassadors. Acclaimed soloists including Carlos Eiene, Jon Hatamiya, and Bill Tiberio have brought his works to life.
In addition to writing commissioned works for school ensembles and professional consortiums, Stempien has composed music for video games and frequently serves as a clinician, working with middle and high schools, universities, and community ensembles. His diverse experience includes conducting the Eastman Music Educators' Wind Ensemble, performing with GRAMMY-nominated smooth-jazz artist Jimmie Highsmith Jr., and serving as a pianist and multi-instrumentalist for jazz groups, church services, and pit orchestras.
While pursuing a dual degree in Music (B.A.) and Environmental Science (B.S.) at the University of Rochester, Stempien leads the Joey Stempien Big Band, a professional ensemble of emerging musicians dedicated to performing his original compositions. The band has released two albums, Life Out Here and Wherever We Go, both available on major music platforms. His compositions for big band and wind ensemble are published through C. Alan Publications.
