About the Artist
Jamal Damien is a 22-year-old Pennsylvania native and soon-to-be graduate of the Eastman School of Music in jazz trumpet performance under the instruction of Clay Jenkins. Jamal is a multi-instrumentalist, writer, and composer who prides himself on free-flowing improvisation and open, honest expression.
During his time at Eastman, Jamal has worked with with artists and educators such as Danilo Perez, Tim Hagans, Billy Harper, and more. Through the Eastman Jazz Ensemble, Jamal was able to compete in the first inaugural Jack Rudin Jazz Championship at Jazz At Lincoln Center in January 2020. In his own compositions, Jamal hopes to connect with his audience by creating a sense of unity and comfort through spacious grooves and melodic textures.
