An award winning banjo player, a square dance fiddler, and a cherished songwriter, Benny Bleu lives up to the truest form of folk music – made by the folks, for the folks. His latest project, 'Swatting the Flies' started as a pandemic project. Bits and pieces of recordings made in a bayside cabin in Maine just as the first wave and shut-in was upon us.
As the project progressed, Benny incorporated old ideas which had been on the shelf for years and new obsessions (namely Cajun and La-La rhythms) to produce his second full-length album. Several cuts from the CD are instrumental banjo, fiddle, and fingerstyle blues guitar pieces, made entirely by Benny while holed up in seclusion. And a handful of collaborations with good friends highlight and cornerstone the record. He brings his trio to Bop Shop Records on July 1 to play cuts from the new album and other chestnuts sure to motivate the limbs and exercise the mind.
