David D. McIntire: clarinet, saxophone, ocarina, electronics
Ryan Oldham: trumpet, voice, whistling, objects
Brian Padavic: double bass, whistling, tanpura raagini
EIO was formed in 2012, in the wake of a collaboration with David D. McIntire and bassist Brian Padavic. Over the course of this project, the notion of an ensemble that performed indeterminate works took hold and Ryan Oldham was invited to fill out the trio. All three are composers and all contribute to the group's repertoire. While the trio often performs from notation, all of its works are designed to be realized differently each time they are performed. Thus, every musical outcome is “irreproducible.” In the works with electronics, earlier performances are embedded into the electronic material, usually transformed in some way, yet providing an imperfect “memory” of the previous experiences. With each new performance, this material is remixed, and while certain dimensions will remain the same and be familiar to the musicians, there are always some surprises. In this way we hope to mirror phenomena of nature and the workings of people's daily lives.
EIO will perform selections from the following:
This B Is for Brian (McIntire/Padavic, ca. 12')
In Search of a Basilica (McIntire, ca. 14')
Five Miniatures (Oldham, ca. 5')
Counting Clouds (Padavic, ca. 7')
Junewalk (McIntire, ca. 5')
Perforated Axis (Oldham, ca 8')
Foggy, Foggy Dew (Irish folk song, arr. McIntire, ca. 8')
Trio and Sine Waves (with Wind, Snow and Birds, McIntire, ca. 45)
